For those who don't know, The Master Cleanser is a diet/cleanse that supposedly has many benefits. Your intestines and colon are cleaned out, in a more gradual and gentle way than a colonic; you are supposedly rid of any bad eating habits and addictions, such as smoking, if you do it for a sufficient amount of time; you lose weight, both from losing the matter in your intestines and also from burning fat from a smaller caloric intake than usual; et cetera. Basically it is one giant purge for your body - your tongue supposedly turns white as it purges bacteria before turning pink once again, and your complexion is said to improve over the course of the cleanse.
My boyfriend does not believe in any of this so-called "crap" and I'm not sure I believe it's all true either. However, so many people swear by it that I do think that it probably benefits in a few ways. I do believe in a body restart, and I do believe that at best, it is a good alternative to a colonic.
So I've decided to test my willpower and clean out my insides by doing the Master Cleanser. I do not have a set timeline for how long I will do it; I suppose I'll keep going for as long as I see fit. My goal is anywhere from 7-10 days but I do not want to go any longer than that.
The Cleanse consists of the following:
- Every night before bedtime, drink a cup of Smooth Move herbal laxative tea.
- Every morning, giving yourself several hours of leeway before you actually are meant to arise and get ready for work/whatever, you drink a full liter (that's 4 cups or 32 oz) of room-temperature water mixed with 2 teaspoons of uniodized sea salt as fast as you possibly can. This is probably the most miserable part of the whole experience; that is a vast quantity of something that doesn't exactly taste pleasant to drink in a short amount of time. The SWF (Salt Water Flush) as it's called, is said to have the same specific gravity as your blood. Thus, the kidneys do not absorb the water, nor does the blood absorb the salt. It simply runs straight through your system, and not too much later it comes out the other end of you, flushing out impacted feces and, in certain reported cases, worms and other ailments.
- Throughout the course of the day, you consume nothing but as much water as you'd like to drink, and the specially concocted lemonade. The lemonade consists of water, fresh-squeezed lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. Since you are on a liquid diet, your body often feels chilly during the Cleanse. The cayenne pepper is added to make you feel warmer. The maple syrup is the primary source of calories and minerals/nutrients during this process.
You are meant to be on the Cleanse for a minimum of 10 days and up to 40. I have read experiences of people who have done 40-day Cleanses, but I have no desire to do so.
In any case, as I write this I am on the tail end of my 4th full day. I will create a post as a recap of each day previous, and I will continue posting each day until the end of my experience.
